Carl Smith

Carl Smith is an award-winning science journalist working for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)'s Science Unit and Radio National.
For more than a decade he's been making audio documentaries and has written features with original photography, regularly reporting from far-flung locations. Smith is the creator of ABC's Strange Frontiers and Pacific Scientific, sister programs that profile scientists who live and work in remote parts of the world.
Smith is the vice president of the Science Journalists Association of Australia. He's worked as a geneticist and co-edited the Best Australian Science Writing anthology for 2024. In addition, he writes and co-hosts an ethics podcast for children, Short & Curly.
