Berta Vicente Salas

GRANTEE

Photographer and filmmaker Berta Vicente Salas studied Humanities at Open Catalonia University (UOC) and holds a Master's in Documentary Film from EICTV, the Cinema School of San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. She focuses on portrait photography and between 2014 and 2018 was working and living in Ciudad Juárez, México, where she collaborated on participatory photography projects and conducted workshops with women in the local juvenile prison. 

She has received the Sony World Photography Awards in the portrait category and was selected by Flickr as one of the best 20 under 20 photographers and awarded with an exhibition in New York. 

Salas is part of the collectives Woman Photograph and of RUIDO Photo and was selected by 20Fotografos Atitlán, Guatemala, where she co-developed the book XOCOMIL (2019) published by KWY editions. 

At the School of Cinema in San Antoni de los Baños, Cuba, she directed her first short film Todos los días Elisa (2021, 18'), and she is currently working on a feature-length documentary Flight of the Stork produced by CARMEL and selected by Dones Visuals.
