Barry Christianson

Barry Christianson is a freelance documentary photographer and journalist from Cape Town, South Africa.

Before entering the journalism field in 2019, he spent 17 years working as a web developer.

He has worked on diverse topics ranging from his first long-term project on Cissie Gool House, a housing occupation in an abandoned state-owned hospital, to seal deaths on South Africa's west coast, and what it takes to build a field hospital during the first wave of COVID-19.

His work has appeared in a variety of South African and international publications, including the Daily Maverick, The GroundUp, The Mail & Guardian, Nature, National Geographic, Global Citizen, Al Jazeera, Rest of World, among others.
