Athandiwe Saba

Athandiwe Saba is an award-winning investigative journalist, editor, and strategist with extensive experience leading complex, cross-border investigations across Africa. She previously led Africa’s largest open-source intelligence (OSINT) investigative team at Code for Africa, overseeing investigations into coordinated influence campaigns, extremist networks, and information manipulation.
Earlier, she established South Africa’s first dedicated data journalism desk at the Mail & Guardian. Her work combines traditional investigative reporting with data, OSINT, and AI-assisted methodologies to uncover networks of power and influence.
Saba works with pan-African media startup All Protocol Observed, where her focus includes investigative journalism, information integrity, AI, and strengthening democratic resilience across Africa.
