Mississippi Free Press News Editor Ashton Pittman rose to national acclaim as a Jackson Free Press state reporter for his multi-award-winning coverage of Mississippi’s 2018 U.S. Senate special election, which made headlines across the country and kicked off a nationwide conversation about the legacy of segregation academies.

Pittman's work has been published in a number of prominent national and international media outlets, including The Guardian, The New York Times, and NBC News' THINK. He has made appearances on several TV and radio programs on MSNBC, NPR, and BBC World radio for his political reporting.

He is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, where he studied journalism and political science.
