James Okong'o

James Okong'o is a multi-award-winning journalist and digital investigations specialist who completed a Neiman Fellowship at Harvard University in 2025. He specializes in Africa's digital spaces, disinformation, and open-source intelligence.
His reporting covers political, humanitarian, and development issues across the continent, combining rigorous investigation with creative storytelling.
Okong'o has worked with leading organizations, including AFP News Agency in South Africa and Kenya and Code For Africa. He has contributed to the Nieman Reports, the Poynter Institute, the Bush Foundation, and the Centre for News, Technology and Innovation. He also trains journalists across Africa in digital verification skills.
He holds advanced degrees in communications and digital journalism from Daystar University and Aga Khan University.
