Kairi Lowery

Kairi Lowery is a 2026 graduate of the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications.
She had four journalism internships during her time at the University of Florida, including one at the Orlando Sentinel, where she reported on politics and immigration in Florida. She’s also worked as a reporter for the Fresh Take Florida news service, where her stories were published in some of the state’s most prominent newspapers, including the Tampa Bay Times, South Florida Sun Sentinel, and the Tallahassee Democrat.
Her analysis of aerial images of Alligator Alcatraz’s quick construction placed eighth in the Hearst Awards’ Innovative Journalism category.
Lowery will be interning at the Miami Herald as a breaking news intern, covering the greater South Florida area.
