Virtual Workshop for Teachers: Connecting Headlines to Systemic Issues

January 31, 2023 | 4:00 PM CST TO 5:00 PM CSTEducators, please join us at 4:00 pm CT on Tuesday, January 31 for a 60-minute virtual workshop led by K-12 Education Manager Sushmita Jaya Mukherjee. In this workshop, participants will examine the systemic issues and historical context that drive current events by analyzing a series of headline-responsive lesson plans.The lessons were designed to help students identify the questions that drive underreported stories, leverage their curiosity and critical thinking to navigate new information, analyze analyze a range of perspectives, make personal connections, and take informed action.

- Connecting Brittney Griner’s Detention with Local Legal Injustices
- Connecting the World Cup to Workers' Rights
- Haiti’s Humanitarian Crisis
- Justice for Mahsa (Zhina) Amini and Global Protests Against State Violence
All K-12 educators, school staff, and administrators are all welcome to attend. Upon completion of a post-workshop survey, participants will receive a certificate for one hour of professional learning units (PLUs).This workshop is free, but registration is required. Click here to register!
