The Pulitzer Center will participate in the Global Investigative Journalism Network’s (GIJN) Investigative Journalism Week (IJ WEEK), a multi-day online gathering bringing together journalists and experts for more than 50 panels, workshops, and networking sessions featuring over 130 speakers.

Taking place online, the event will explore key issues shaping investigative journalism, including technology, the environment, corruption, and financial crime. The Pulitzer Center will contribute to two sessions focused on strengthening journalism’s impact and developing innovative partnerships between journalists, civil society organizations, and content creators.

Through these conversations, the Pulitzer Center will share approaches to making investigative journalism more impactful, strengthening connections with audiences, and building collaborations that help important reporting reach the people best positioned to act on it.

Breakthrough Journalism: Rethinking the Path to Impact
Thursday, October 29, at 12:00pm ET

What does it mean for journalism to make an impact? Can impact be intentional rather than accidental? And how can journalists move beyond publishing a story to create opportunities for meaningful change?

Flora Pereira, co-author of the Pulitzer Center’s "Impact in Journalism: A Global Report on Current Practices, Challenges and Emerging Trends," will draw on the report’s findings to challenge common assumptions about journalism impact, examine persistent challenges, and explore how journalists can think more strategically about the outcomes of their reporting.

Investigative journalist AnuOluwapo Adelakun will share her experience participating in a Pulitzer Center pilot program testing innovative approaches to audience engagement. Drawing on her own reporting, she will discuss how developing an impact journey shaped her investigation and contributed to public policy changes in Nigeria.

Together, the speakers will explore practical approaches to moving beyond clicks and views, identifying audiences positioned to act on reporting, and developing strategies to understand and measure journalism’s real-world impact.

Speakers:

  • Flora Pereira, Chief Impact Officer at the Pulitzer Center, leads global impact strategy and engagement initiatives across more than 100 countries. Her work and research focus on journalism impact, gender, environmental justice, and decolonial thinking.
  • AnuOluwapo Adelakun, an award-winning investigative journalist, documentary filmmaker, and policy and development researcher based in Lagos, Nigeria. Her work focuses on corruption, policy implementation, social development, and socioeconomic and environmental justice.

Innovative Partnerships for the Future of Journalism
Wednesday, October 28, at 12:00pm ET

How can journalists collaborate with civil society organizations and content creators to reach new audiences, build trust, and extend the impact of their reporting?

This session will explore innovative approaches to engagement and collaboration, from co-creating content and connecting with audiences through new networks and platforms to building partnerships around shared issues.

Bringing together perspectives from journalism, civil society, and the creator space, the conversation will examine practical examples of successful collaborations, the challenges of working across different fields, and opportunities to build meaningful partnerships that benefit all involved.

Jonatan Rodríguez, Senior Program Manager at the Pulitzer Center, will share perspectives on developing audience engagement strategies and collaborations that expand the reach and impact of investigative journalism across Latin America. Brazilian content creator Malu Junco will bring the perspective of science communication and digital content creation, drawing on her experience translating complex topics into accessible content for online audiences.

The discussion will highlight how collaboration across sectors can help investigative journalism connect with broader audiences, foster meaningful engagement, and create new pathways to impact.

Speakers:

  • Jonatan Rodríguez, Senior Program Manager at the Pulitzer Center, leads regional strategies to expand the reach, engagement, and impact of investigative journalism across Latin America while overseeing digital campaigns across the organization's international programs.
  • Malu Junco, a Brazilian content creator focused on science, technology, and fascinating facts about the world. She began creating science content at age 15 and studied science management at Claremont McKenna College in California.
