The Arctic is warming at twice the global average rate, but the effects of its thaw could impact billions of people far from its frozen shores. During a talk at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies on Thursday, December 1, 2016, award-winning Science Magazine correspondent Eli Kintisch explores the Arctic's history and modern unraveling through photos, video footage and tales of Arctic inhabitants, explorers and scientists.

Kintisch, Yale College '99 (Ezra Stiles), also discusses the challenge of reaching audiences on climate change using stories from the Arctic. Based in Washington D.C., Kintisch has traveled to seven Arctic nations since 2013 to witnessed the thawing first hand. Last year, an article he wrote on how the Arctic might be impacting global weather was included in the annual Best American Science and Nature Writing anthology. His reporting is supported by the Pulitzer Center.

While the Pulitzer Center has worked with colleagues from Yale University on previous educational programs, the December 1 talk marks the inaugural visit of the formal Campus Consortium partnership between the Pulitzer Center and the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication. Pulitzer Center Executive Director Jon Sawyer joins Kintisch for the talk along with Anthony Leiserowitz, director of the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, and Bud Ward, editor of Yale Climate Connections.
