Join Pulitzer Center journalist grantee Ian Johnson in Washington, D.C., on April 17, 2017, for a book signing and discussion of his latest work, The Souls of China: The Return of Religion after Mao. The visit to East City Bookshop is part of an extended book tour for Johnson in April and May.
Johnson, a Pulitzer-Prize winning correspondent, has reported from the Greater China region for much of the last 30 years. He is scheduled to talk about why China's religious revival matters in the U.S. during his four stops in Washington, D.C., including at the Wilson Center, CSIS, and Georgetown University. The resurgence of religion in China has affected the country's culture and economy as of late, and Johnson documents what it means to be Chinese during the current political and cultural tension there.
Washington, D.C., is the third stop on Johnson's coast-to-coast tour. His other stops include visits to California, Indiana, Illinois, North Carolina and New York. His book tour also includes venues in China in May.
