Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter, Assistant Professor of Journalism at New York University, and Pulitzer Center AI Accountability Fellow Hilke Schellmann will visit Hampton University on Monday, August 24, 2026, to lead a conversation with the university’s journalism faculty on artificial intelligence and journalism.

The conversation will explore the use of AI in journalism and communications; AI tools for the journalism and communications industries; and how to integrate AI into the curriculum to help prepare students for a rapidly changing industry.

Schellmann’s work has been published in The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, The New York Times, and MIT Technology Review, among others. She is the author of The Algorithm: How AI Decides Who Gets Hired, Monitored, Promoted, and Fired, And Why We Need To Fight Back (Hachette), in which she investigates the rise of AI in the world of work.

She was among the first cohort of the Pulitzer Center’s AI Accountability Fellowship, which is part of the Center’s AI Accountability Network. She has completed two Pulitzer Center-supported reporting projects: Are AI Hiring Tools Racist and Ableist?, and Outlawed in Pakistan.
