SECTIONS

Lydia Emmanouilidou, a 2022 AI Accountability Fellow, will visit Boston University on November 21, 2023, to speak with first-year journalism students. She will discuss her career path and share advice from her work as an independent multimedia reporter.

She began her journalism career as part of NPR’s Investigations unit, where she contributed research and reporting to multiple award-winning series.

Emmanouilidou has also worked as a producer and reporter for NPR member station WGBH in Boston. There, she covered higher education and local news. Most recently, she served as a staff reporter for The World, where she covered technology until she was selected to be the program's foreign correspondent in Athens.

Her project, Eye on the Wall: Refugees and "Smart" Borders, explores the advent of surveillance border technologies in the United States and the European Union and tracks the impact of such technologies on border communities, advocates, and people on the move.
