The Pulitzer Center-supported documentary Entangled will premiere on PBS April 22 at 9:00pm EDT on the program Local, USA.

Entangled, part of a larger Connected Coastlines reporting project, was created by grantees David Abel and Andy Laub. Their award-winning film chronicles the controversy around efforts to save the North Atlantic right whales from extinction.

Fewer than 400 remain, making the whales among the planet's most endangered species. Scientists say the main threat to their survival lurks under the water: hundreds of thousands of lobster lines, standard gear for North America's most valuable fishery. Under pressure from lawsuits by environmental advocates, the federal government is considering controversial new regulations that pit the region's politically powerful lobstermen against scientists and environmental advocates trying to save the whales.
