Breakthrough Journalism: Climate Stories, Collective Action

For two decades, the Pulitzer Center has supported journalism that helps audiences understand some of the world's most pressing climate and environmental challenges—from the expansion of data centers and the environmental impacts of artificial intelligence to biodiversity loss, oceans, and the Amazon rainforest. Yet journalism alone is not enough. Lasting change requires bringing together the people and institutions with the power to transform information into action.

This interactive roundtable will explore how environmental journalism can serve as a catalyst for accountability, stronger governance, and cross-sector collaboration. Through compelling engagement and reporting projects supported by the Pulitzer Center, participants will examine how investigative journalism, audience engagement, and community-centered approaches can deepen public understanding, foster dialogue among diverse stakeholders, and inspire collective responses to complex climate challenges.

This session will be designed as a participatory conversation, creating space for journalists, funders, researchers, civil society leaders, policymakers, and the private sector to exchange ideas, share lessons, and identify opportunities for collaboration. By connecting multiple perspectives around evidence-based reporting, the discussion aims to demonstrate how journalism can help build the partnerships and accountability needed to advance more informed and effective climate solutions.

Opening

Lisa Gibbs, President and CEO of the Pulitzer Center. She joined the Center in 2024 after serving as Vice President of Philanthropic Development at The Associated Press.

Panelists

Duy Linh Tu, StoryReach Fellow working on environmental issues. Based in New York City, he is part of the journalism faculty at Columbia University.

Annika McGinnis, Incoming Rainforest Investigations Network (RIN) Fellow, based in New York City. She is an environmental journalist and the founder of InfoNile.

Isabelle Tavares, StoryReach Midwest grantee whose work focuses on climate and labor issues, with a strong emphasis on community outreach and engagement.

Flora Pereira, Chief Impact Officer at the Pulitzer Center, leading engagement and education programs and teams across the U.S., Latin America, Central Africa, and Southeast Asia.
