Warm Up: Students discuss their experience sharing images on social media, and review the terms curate and caption.

Introducing the lesson: Students explore videos by Everyday Africa co-founders Peter DiCampo and Austin Merrill to learn techniques used by photojournalists to caption and curate images for an exhibition that uses images to capture underrepresented stories of everyday life.

Extension Activity 1: Students practice composing and selecting images that visualize everyday life in their classrooms.

Extension Activity 2: Students practice writing and editing captions for photos taken in their classrooms, or in their communities.
