In collaboration with PBS’ FRONTLINE and The Marshall Project, a Pulitzer Center-supported documentary, Undocumented in the Pandemic, has been nominated for an Emmy Award in the category of News and Documentary. The documentary was produced by grantees Emily Kassie and Ben C. Solomon.

Undocumented in the Pandemic was a part of a two-hour series put together by FRONTLINE called Love, Life, & the Virus. It told the heartbreaking story of an immigrant trying to navigate the pandemic without her husband. The film follows her as she tries to provide for her children and house them while her husband remains detained by ICE in a facility with a severe COVID-19 outbreak. The episode aired on August 11, 2020.

A second Pulitzer Center-supported story "What Migrants Face as They Journey Through the Deadly Darien Gap" was nominated for an Emmy in the category of News and Documentary. The documentary produced by grantee Nadja Drost and Bruno Federico aired on PBS Newshour, “Desperate Journey” followed a group of migrants through the Darien Gap, a dangerous stretch of jungle between Colombia and Panama that is part of the overland journey from South America to the United States border. An accompanying story in California Sunday Magazine by Drost won the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Writing.

This year, FRONTLINE has been nominated for 19 Emmys in the News and Documentary category for films examining a variety of topics surrounding domestic and international issues. The Pulitzer Center joined four other journalism entities in supporting individual documentaries that were distributed by FRONTLINE and nominated for Emmys. These entities included the Financial Times, The Marshall Project, WORLD Channel, and the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists
