Journalist Vanessa Gezari was interviewed by NPR's Here & Now on Afghanistan's fledgling media and the unique challenges Afghan journalists face.

Gezari has worked in Afghanistan for almost ten years and has been embedded in the country with the U.S. Army, the Marine Corps and Canadian forces. She is currently working on a book about Human Terrain Systems (HTS), a U.S. military initiative that provides teams of civilian anthropologists to military units in order to improve the understanding of local populations.
