SECTIONS

Yap is an island, part of the Federated States of Micronesia, in the western Pacific, just over halfway between Port Moresby and Manilla. Despite sitting at 10 degrees north, and having a tropical climate, with rainy weather throughout the year, Yap experienced severe drought during the first half of 2024. Carl Smith visited Yap to see how residents are coping, and how the island’s limited agriculture and economy are being impacted by drought on a tropical island.
