Researchers suggest that based on current trends in obesity and Type 2 diabetes this generation of Native American children will not outlive their parents. Viridiana Vidales Coyt reports on community organizations in New Mexico that combat what has now become an epidemic in Native American Communities—using nutrition and physical education to help educate children about obesity and diabetes through curated health curriculums on the field and in a classroom.

Obesity in Native children currently exceeds 50 percent. Through sports, these children are learning how to improve their dietary needs as well as increase their physical exercise, two big factors in obesity.
