Over a period of almost three years without classes, many children and young people from riverside communities in the Rondônia area of the Amazon went to work in the mines.
In 2019, they were practically without classes the entire school year due to a case of corruption involving the Municipal Secretariat of Education (SEMED) and the river school transportation company. With the pandemic and the dismantling of the environmental enforcement policy by President Jair Bolsonaro, this situation has worsened.
This project presents a timeline of education in the communities, exposing the cognitive and psychological effects of school absence.
