Vanessa Colón Almenas

Vanessa Colón Almenas, who was born and raised in Puerto Rico, is a journalist with more than 25 years of experience. She completed a BA in Communications at the University of Puerto Rico and most recently completed an MA in Journalism at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York. While working at GFR Media, Colón Almenas served in many different roles at the newspaper Primera Hora since its foundation in 1997: reporter, deputy director of the entertainment section, multimedia editor, and later on digital deputy director of the two largest news sites in Puerto Rico: elnuevodia.com and primerahora.com. As an independent journalist, she has published at the Center of Investigative Journalism (Puerto Rico), CNN en Español, City Limits, Latino Rebels, Hunts Point Express, and Mott Haven Herald. Colón Almenas has participated in workshops of the Fundación para un Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano, WAN-IFRA y GDA, among others.
