Uma Paithankar

REPORTING FELLOW

Uma Paithankar is a rising junior at Washington University in St. Louis, majoring in genomics and computational biology with a minor in computer science.

On campus, she is a founder and co-president of Empower Through Health’s undergraduate chapter at WashU and serves as the Co-Cultural Chair for Ashoka, WashU’s South Asian Student Association. 

As a 2021 Reporting Fellow, she is writing on the access to health care in Uganda’s Buyende District. She plans to focus on the consequences of and current measures in place to combat parasitic worm infections in the region.

She is interested in covering topics in global and public health and is always very excited to learn more.
