Timothy R. Smith


Timothy R. Smith is a volunteer intern at the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting. He started in August 2012. During the day, Smith works for the Book World section of The Washington Post. He has written extensively for The Post and has covered local issues and the federal government. He was a member of a reporting team that covered an $823,000 Las Vegas conference for employees of the General Services Administration. Smith is a 2008 graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he majored in journalism. He decided to pursue journalism after reading a biography of Ernie Pyle, the World War II war correspondent. His goal is to work from war zones and other crisis areas around the globe.
