Romulus Dorval Kuessie
2026 RAINFOREST INVESTIGATIONS FELLOW (CAMEROON)
Romulus Dorval Kuessié is a Cameroonian investigative journalist specializing in health, environmental, and natural resource governance issues. His investigations focus on the links between the extractive industries, climate change, public health, and misinformation. He coordinates La Djoss Radio in Cameroon. Through this platform, he trains young journalists in radio production, podcasting, and fact-checking.
His work draws on a combination of field investigations, data analysis, OSINT, and science journalism. In particular, he has investigated the health and environmental impacts of artisanal gold mining in Cameroon, the effects of climate change on communities, biodiversity, infectious diseases, and public health policies.
In 2024, he received an Acer Award in the Investigative Journalism category for his investigation into the health risks associated with gold mining, particularly the exposure of mining communities to mercury.
He is also a member of the Cameroonian chapter of the Network of Science Journalists of Francophone Africa (RJSAF), where he helps build the capacity of the younger generation in science journalism and the fight against misinformation.
