Robert Frausto

Robert (Corky) Frausto was born and raised in South Texas and participated in his first Chicano Rights protest in Del Rio in 1970. He moved to Albuquerque, NM 34 years ago. He has a BA in Psychology (UTSA) and an MA in Special Education (UNM). He teaches Mexican American Studies and Mexican American Literature at Highland High School in Albuquerque. He also sponsors MEChA, the Chicanx student club, and the Humanists of Highland club at the high school. Robert is also a Ph.D student in Chicana/o Studies at UNM. He developed and implemented the Mexican American Studies Program at Highland. The program is unique in that it is intended to provide an intervention strategy for struggling and underserved students. His research is focused on curriculum development for secondary education ethnic studies classes and on the development of the literary canon in Chicanx Literature. He lives in Albuquerque's South Valley with 2 dogs and 2 cats. He is an artist and hosts Corkfest, an annual arts, crafts and music festival at his home.
