Rebecca Coven

ENGLISH AND SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATOR, SULLIVAN HIGH SCHOOL IN CHICAGO, IL

Rebecca is a high school English and social studies teacher in Chicago Public Schools. She is dedicated to helping students become active and engaged citizens by creating original inquiry-driven and problems-based curriculum. Rebecca taught for several years at an interdisciplinary project-based high school and currently leads professional development for educators on bringing PBL into their classrooms and schools. Beyond the classroom, she is an active member of the Chicago Teachers Union, serving on their Human Rights Committee to fight for racial justice and co-leading their Police-Free Schools Coordinating Committee. She is a recipient of the 2018 Teaching Tolerance Award for Excellence in Teaching and currently serves on the advisory board for Learning for Justice (formerly Teaching Tolerance).
