Raven Nicole Althimer

Raven Nicole Althimer has been a proud social science teacher for students within Chicago since 2005, and the entirety of her career has been serving schools within the communities of Englewood, Bronzeville, and Roseland. She is very passionate about helping students grow into their full potential and hopes they leave her classroom as better people and citizens. Working with the students of Chicago has given her the wonderful opportunity to share her passion for history with students with similar backgrounds and hopes they grow to love their story. She teaches in a manner where students inquire about the world, form a hypothesis, and research those interests. She teaches from the belief that when students take ownership of their learning, magic happens and life-long learners are created. Believing that our students are our future leaders, their education must be empowered with the skills to take them anywhere they endeavor.
Over the course of her career, she has conducted training on social science and student engagement best practices (2011 Teacher of the Year award) Served in various leadership and instructional coaching roles for the last eight years including grade-level lead, curriculum coach, and department chair. Always the lifelong learner, within the last two years she has been awarded two fellowships through Education for Democracy- Youth and Civic Media, and National Endowment for the Humanities- Rethinking Race and the Gilded Age
