Nicole Lewis is the engagement editor for The Marshall Project, a nonprofit news organization that reports on the U.S. criminal justice system. Lewis leads the group’s strategic efforts in covering communities most affected by the legal system.
Previously, Lewis was a senior editor at Slate.
In 2020, she was the lead reporter on a political survey of the incarcerated, which received an honorable mention in the Investigative Reporters & Editors' Philip Meyer Awards, which honor the use of social research methods in journalism.
