2026 AI ACCOUNTABILITY FELLOW

Mawa Kresna is an investigative journalist and editor at Project Multatuli in Jakarta, where he reports on corruption, abuse of power, and the use of technology by state institutions. He is a co-founder and the executive director of the Indonesian Data Journalism Network. His work was part of two Project Multatuli entries honored at the 2026 SOPA Awards: Automation Fever, a series with Antonia Timmerman and Rio Tuasikal on the impact of AI on workers, which won Excellence in Technology Reporting; and Darurat Kekerasan Aparat, a series on police violence that carried his opinion essay and won Excellence in Bahasa Indonesia News Reporting. 

Alongside reporting, he builds tools for newsrooms, including the AI fact-checking tool Cekdata.ai, the data visualization platform Data Story Studio, and MATRIKS, a local-first workspace for reading and cross-checking investigative documents.
