Matt Sandy

Matt Sandy is a Brazil-based journalist who tells enduring human stories as a lens to understand a changing world. He has reported from more than 20 countries, including on endangered tribes in the Amazon, modern slavery in northeastern Brazil, and last summer conducted one of the first major interviews with then-presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro in Western media. Before moving to Rio, Matt spent just under four years as a national news reporter in London and was named Young Journalist of the Year in The Press Awards in 2011.
