Laureano Barrera

2026 OCEAN REPORTING FELLOW (AMERICAS)

Laureano Barrera is a journalist with two decades of experience. During those years, he worked his way through every aspect of the profession. He has been part of newsrooms following the urgent pulse of the news; he has immersed himself as a freelancer in long-form stories; he has worked in institutional press for government offices and civil organizations; he published his first book, the result of seven years of patient writing and research; and he founded the Perycia agency, specializing in investigative journalism, which has been online for eight years and from which he has woven networks with other digital media.

His articles appear in Miradas al Sur, Cosecha Roja, Anfibia magazine, Crisis magazine, and THC. Abroad, he has published in Junge Welt and Kulturaustausch (Germany), Gatopardo magazine (Mexico), and the newspaper El País (Spain). He has participated in transnational research projects coordinated by the Latin American Center for Investigative Journalism (CLIP). He has also taught and trained reporters at Anfibia's "Laboratorio de Periodismo Situado" (Situated Journalism Laboratory), the Universidad de La Plata, and the Eter School of Journalism.
