Laura Grant

Laura Grant, co-founder of the South African data journalism team the Media Hack Collective (MHC), is a data journalist with 20 years of experience in South African media as a journalist, copy editor, and designer. Grant is also the head of data at The Outlier, MHC's outlet that focuses on visualizing key issues in South Africa and Africa.
She combines infographics, interactive maps, and a variety of other visual elements with journalistic storytelling to make data accessible and interesting.
Before joining MHC, Grant was associate editor, digital and data projects, at the Mail & Guardian. She wrote data-driven stories and produced interactive graphics and maps for both print and online platforms.
Grant has a bachelor's in journalism and media studies, a bachelor's honours degree in psychology, and a postgraduate diploma in environmental management and tourism development.
