Kelly Fischer
LESSON BUILDER USER, GUEST CONTRIBUTOR
As a young adult, Kelly spent a significant amount of time abroad in Central America, New Zealand, and India. She was inspired by the people she met, their stories, and their strength. Upon returning to her adopted home of Chicago, Kelly decided to pursue her MA in Special Education. Her goals are to create empathic, safe classrooms and support diverse learners as empowered, confident, change makers. Kelly has been working with high school students with low incidence disabilities within Chicago Public Schools for over fifteen years. Outside of the classroom, Kelly has served as student development coordinator, an instructional leader at Mikva Challenge, overseen multiple partnerships for inclusion, co-taught at Street Level Youth Media, created media arts curriculum for The National Summer Learning Association, implemented community-based instructional programs, and developed service-learning curricula. Kelly is currently the social science department chair and facilitator of the Vaughn High School Instructional Leadership Team. On the weekends, Kelly enjoys teaching yoga, kayaking, biking, podcasts, exploring and playing in the forest with her two young daughters.
