Keith Matheny
GRANTEE
Journalist Keith Matheny grew up in East Jordan, Michigan. He is a 2024 recipient of the Richard C. Longworth Media Fellowship, which aims to reconnect Midwestern readers with international stories that impact their daily lives.
Matheny graduated with a journalism degree from Central Michigan University and worked at newspapers in northern Michigan for several years before heading to The Desert Sun in Palm Springs, California.
As an investigative and enterprise projects reporter there, Matheny won numerous state journalism awards and three Best of Gannett awards for First Amendment and Public Service.
Matheny returned to his home state of Michigan in 2013 to work at the Detroit Free Press and serve as the Great Lakes and environment reporter. He has since won multiple state and Detroit regional journalism awards.
Matheny lives in Oakland County, Michigan.
