Katja Heinemann is a multimedia journalist and documentary photographer whose long-form reporting investigates issues of stigma and social exclusion. Katja specializes in covering public health, migration, and youth culture. Her new media documentaries on HIV/AIDS—On Borrowed Time about children and teenagers in the U.S. and The Graying of AIDS on the global aging of the pandemic—illustrate how a personal body of work can grow beyond an initial editorial concept into an educational tool, utilizing multiple platforms and media to have maximum impact in reaching diverse audiences.
