Jonas Kgomo is a research engineer and founder working at the intersection of the societal impacts, progress, and governance of artificial intelligence. He is the founder and director of the Equiano Institute, a research organization focused on AI and technological development in Africa. His background spans mathematics and computer science, with studies at Istanbul University and the University of Sussex.
His research focuses on AI diffusion and governance, machine learning, scientific progress, and the institutions that shape technological development. He has contributed to research on AI policy and readiness in Africa, AI governance, and the economics of technological progress. He is also developing Fair Work Kenya, an initiative focused on understanding and shaping the future of work in the age of AI.
