Hernán Vilchez

GRANTEE

Hernán Vilchez studied filmmaking in Buenos Aires and San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba.

After living 10 years between Barcelona, Munich, and Prague, he returned to Buenos Aires in 2011, where he’s now settled.

Specialized in filming urban culture, Indigenous peoples, and exotic regions and wildlife around the globe (Europe, Africa, India, Australia, Indonesia, Latin America), he has produced international content for shows including World´s Strictest Parents (Sat1, Germany) and Sweeping Jobs (SRF, Switzerland), and directed for the international series My Religion (History Channel, Sky Arte Italy), Viviendo Religiones (Encuentro, Argentina), while writing and producing his own independent documentaries and fiction projects since 2007.

In May 2014 he released his first feature documentary, Huicholes: The Last Peyote Guardians, awarded in 13 international film festivals. He then produced and directed the pilot chapters of the independent documentary series Guardians: Tales of Resistance. He also shoots music and corporate videos.
