Godwell Nhamo

GUEST SPEAKER

Godwell Nhamo is a professor and Exxaro Chair in Climate and Sustainability Transitions at the University of South Africa (UNISA). He is a National Research Foundation researcher and subject specialist in the fields of climate change, sustainable development, coastal resilience and livelihoods, as well as disaster risk reduction. 

Nhamo has published 18 books, over 120 journal articles, and many book chapters. Nhamo is also one of the experts for the Non-Economic Losses Group under the UNFCCC Warsaw International Mechanisms on Loss and Damage (L&D). He sits in the Gauteng Premier Climate Change Experts Group and is part of the L&D Forum for the Department of Forestry Fisheries and Environment. He has over 26 years of experience in the academic and consulting spaces and is an advocate of open access educational resources. 

Nhamo is a recipient of many accolades, among them, the 2017 Distinguished Old Rhodian Award for having reached exceptional heights in his chosen career by maintaining excellence in the field and service to society, the 2021 NRF Science Award, and the UNISA Vice Chancellor Research Excellence Award.
