Eric Seals

GRANTEE

Eric Seals works as a photo and video journalist at the Detroit Free Press, where he’s been since 1999.

Over the years, he has covered many events for the Free Press, from the Iraq war to major sporting events, including the Olympics, Super Bowl, and World Series.

Seals is a 2024 recipient of the Richard C. Longworth Media Fellowship, which aims to reconnect Midwestern readers with international stories that impact their daily lives. 

He has been recognized for his photo and video storytelling with a national Edward R. Murrow Award, a national Webby Award, multiple Michigan Press Photographers Association Multimedia Photographer of the Year awards, 10 regional Emmys, and others.

Teaching is a big passion for him. He coaches at various workshops, including the National Press Photographers Association's Multimedia Immersion at Syracuse University; the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida; the Missouri Photo Workshop; the University of South Carolina workshop; Western Kentucky University’s Mountain Workshop; and the Lens Collective at the University of Mississippi.
