Emily Schmall

Emily Schmall is the South Asia correspondent for the Associated Press in New Delhi. She joined the AP in 2014 as a correspondent in Fort Worth, Texas, where she covered energy, climate change, crime and public health, and contributed to an award-winning yearlong investigation of sexual assault in U.S. public schools.
In 2018, she transferred to New Delhi, where she has covered everything from elections to terrorism to climate disasters. She covers news across South Asia, collaborating with journalists across India and in Bangladesh, Nepal, the Maldives, Sri Lanka and Bhutan.
Prior to joining AP, Emily was country manager of the journalism NGO New Narratives in Monrovia, Liberia; covered breaking news and enterprise for The New York Times in Buenos Aires, Argentina; and was a staff reporter at Forbes magazine in New York City. She holds an MA from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and a BA in Spanish from Bard College.
