GRANTEE, PULITZER CENTER ALUMNI
Emily Baumgaertner is a national correspondent for the Los Angeles Times focused on medical investigations and features. She joined the paper in 2019 from The New York Times Washington bureau, where she worked after serving as the Pulitzer Center's health projects coordinator.
She reported from the 2014-16 Ebola epidemic in West Africa and the 2016 yellow fever outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo as a Pulitzer Center grantee, with work appearing in The Atlantic, The Washington Post, Foreign Policy, Scientific American, and elsewhere.
Baumgaertner earned her master's in public health degree from The George Washington University.
