Eder Ruiz Sanchez
2024 REPORTING FELLOW
Eder Ruiz Sanchez (he/him) is a first-generation student passionate about social change. Originally from San Rafael, California, he is pursuing a B.A. in Sociology/Anthropology and Spanish at Swarthmore College. Grounding his work in the networks of care and resilience he grew up seeing in his immigrant community, Eder is interested in utilizing ethnography, journalism, and storytelling to bridge lived and communal experiences within global frameworks to construct just futures. This passion has led him to working at after school youth programs in South Philadelphia with migrant communities, organizing for the Latinx student group on campus, interning at the Washington Office on Latin America, and studying abroad in Santiago, Chile. He is interested in topics such as social movements, sovereignty, political ecologies, and indigeneity within Latin America.
In his free time, he enjoys seeking small local culinary gems in new places he visits, exploring the outdoors through hiking, and preparing for a marathon.
