Carol Tavris


Carol Tavris, Ph.D., is a social psychologist, lecturer, and writer, whose lifetime work has been devoted to educating the public about good psychological science (an uphill battle, in a world where psychobabble prevails). She is coauthor, with Elliot Aronson, of the best-selling Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me): Why we justify foolish beliefs, bad decisions, and hurtful acts (3rd edition, 2020). Her other best-known books include Anger: The misunderstood emotionThe Mismeasure of Woman; and, with Dr. Avrum Bluming, Estrogen Matters. A Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science, she has received numerous awards for her efforts to promote science and skepticism,[can cut from here—>including an award from the Center for Inquiry's Independent Investigations Group; an honorary doctorate from Simmons College for her work promoting critical thinking and gender equity; the Bertrand Russell Distinguished Scholar, Foundation for Critical Thinking, Sonoma State; and the Media Achievement Award from the Society for Personality and Social Psychology.
