Allyn Gaestel

Allyn is an international freelance writer whose work has been published by The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, CNN, Al Jazeera, Reuters, The Atlantic, The Christian Science Monitor, France 24, The Philadelphia Inquirer and other media outlets. Based in Haiti after the earthquake, she covered the post-disaster political and humanitarian crises and recovery. She has also taken extended reporting trips to India and Nepal for a global project on cultural influences on women's reproductive health.
She has won grants to support her reporting from the International Reporting Project, the Kaiser Family Foundation, the National Press Foundation, The United Nations Foundation and the William Penn Foundation. Her work has also taken her to the Bahamas, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, Mauritania and Senegal.
