Pulitzer Center Senior Advisor Marvin Kalb, in a speech at the National Press Club on Thursday, March 30th, assailed President Donald J. Trump for practicing "a creeping authoritarianism" that Kalb says poses a threat not just to a free press but to democracy itself.

"The big question of our time, in my opinion, is whether the media, in its daily tussle with an impatient, powerful president, has the spunk, stuff, and the public support to stand up and say, Mr. President, this far and no further," Kalb said. "If the media, for whatever reason, fails to meet this challenge, then democracy, as we have known it, will slowly die."
