JP Gomes

João Paulo (JP) Gomes is a Brazil-based researcher and strategist with a background spanning human-centered design, civic tech, and government. In 2025, Gomes was a part of Stanford’s McCoy Family Center for Ethics in Society inaugural cohort of Tech and Ethics Fellows (2025), where he focused on developing a playbook for public participation in AI red-teaming exercises.

As a UX Researcher, JP has collaborated with teams at Google and Meta to shape product, design, and policy decisions rooted in a deep understanding of user needs, behaviors, and local contexts, covering critical topics including civic participation, authoritative information, election integrity, and the role of AI in enhancing developer experiences.

In his previous role at Meta's Civic Action & Elections team, JP conducted original research with users and experts in the U.S., Brazil, India, Germany, and Mexico to inform the development and launch of civic-focused product interventions aimed at driving equitable, informed, and safe participation in global elections.

Before transitioning to tech, JP spent a decade as a strategist in the public sector, leading public diplomacy initiatives and contributing to strategic communication efforts at Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
