Valencia Abbott is a Social Studies Teacher and Community Historian in Rockingham County, North Carolina. She's worked over 20 years in education and nearly half that time at Rockingham Early College High School. She is a member of the National Council of History Education (NCHE) Teacher Advisory Committee and the 2024 Civil Rights/Civil Liberties Excellence in Teaching Award recipient from the North Carolina Council for Social Studies, in partnership with the Social Studies School Service. The Civil Rights/Civil Liberties Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes and honors the accomplishments of a social studies educator in the area of civil rights and civil liberties.
