Workshop for Educators: Local Letters for Global Change

Educators passionate about global citizenship, solutions thinking, and civic engagement are invited to join us for a free, virtual workshop on leading the Local Letters for Global Change program with your students!

Local Letters is a writing contest that welcomes students in grades K-12 worldwide to write letters to local decisionmakers. Through their letters, students explain a systemic, global issue; show how it connects to their local community; and proposes a solution. The contest offers educators an authentic audience and an engaging project to practice global citizenship, civic action, and persuasive writing, all while exploring the underreported issues through Pulitzer Center news stories.

This workshop will be held in a Zoom meeting. It is designed for educators supporting students in grades 3-12 in classrooms and out-of-school time environments. Registration is required.

Student letters reflect the authors’ views. Students choose their own topics and act independently if they decide to share their letters outside the classroom. The Pulitzer Center is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization that does not endorse candidates, parties, or specific legislation. Our publication of student work is for educational purposes.
