Talks @ Pulitzer: Ken Weiss on Rapid Population Growth and Hunger

Join us on September 25 for our next Talks @ Pulitzer featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Kenneth R. Weiss, whose project "Beyond 7 Billion" focuses on the world's rapid population growth.

The Earth contains more than 7 billion people, and UN estimates put the world's population at 9.6 billion by mid-century. Already nearly 1 billion people go to bed hungry while at least 8 million die from hunger-related illnesses per year.

If the rapid population growth occurs as projected, living conditions will become bleaker. Water, food and land will become more scarce and hunger will spread.

Weiss spent the last decade writing about science, environment and public health for the Los Angeles Times. He won a Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting and many other awards for his work as the lead writer on a five-part series Altered Oceans.

We'll start the evening with a light reception at 5:30 pm, followed by remarks at 6 pm.
